NEWTON SOUTH WRESTLING PHILOSOPHY AND EXPECTATIONS
We believe wrestling is the toughest, most grueling high school sport available. And while this is true, it is also the most rewarding and personally satisfying sport that an athlete will ever have the opportunity to compete in. The beauty of wrestling is that the wrestler will get out of it what he puts in - that is, the harder he's willing to work and the more he's willing to sacrifice, the more positive outcomes he'll see and the more success he'll experience.
The coaching staff will provide wrestlers with all the tools needed to be successful, but how successful will depend on each wrestler's own personal work ethic, motivation, effort, hard-work, perseverance and ambition to sharpen those tools so that they can be used as effectively as possible during competition. We expect wrestlers to push themselves past their comfort zones, to aim for the impossible target of perfection, and to "reach for better," every single day.
We demand nothing less than a champion's mind-set from every single one of our wrestlers. A champion's mindset isn't determined by wins and losses- it is marked by total self-confidence stemming from a mastery of technique, superior strength and conditioning, a lack of fear from knowing he has outworked his opponent, and an eagerness to step-up and lead the team when called upon. This mindset, earned through hard-work and sculpted through blood, sweat, and tears, is what every Newton South wrestler should strive to achieve.
When the wrestling ends, lessons learned from being a part of our program will define the strong character of these student-athletes for the rest of their lives. They are expected to carry on the values that we'll have ingrained in them forever as they become great men and great leaders, achieving tremendous accomplishments and success in all their future endeavors.
Success is when preparation meets opportunity and preparation is when we perform simple things to perfection.
